Stress Reduction Technique

The stress reduction technique I have chosen is being positive. I have been using this technique for a few months. Before this I would find myself getting frustrated with things happening around me. It took me a while to realize that I have no control over most things. The only aspect I have control of is my reaction to life. I can choose to react in a negative way, get frustrated, and maybe even act out in an inappropriate manner, but this usually never yields positive results. When I choose to be positive, I remain calm. I try to look at the situation from every possible angle. When someone cuts me off instead of getting angry I think, well maybe I should allow more space in front of me, or perhaps that person who cut me off is unsure of where they are going. When I look at the situation from other perspectives I am able to realize that I have been in the other persons shoes before and I did not mean any harm either. At this point I enjoy dissecting problems and I can almost always find a silver lining to that grey cloud. This makes me feel good inside, and also allows me to teach others to be understanding instead of getting mad. Not only has this technique reduced stress, but it has also made me more humble. I believe that humility is key to living a happy healthy life. I plan to use this technique for the rest of my life!

  1. I love your stress reduction technique. What you said about giving people the benefit of the doubt is so true. Not only does it benefit the other person, but yourself as well. I always try to do the type of things you have listed above, it makes for a much more peaceful and happy day!

  2. Staying positive and having positive thoughts is always a good thing, plus I believe that it will make you a happier person. I also like how you mentioned you look at things from the other perspective because you never know what the other persons life is all about. very good thinking. :)

  3. Thats a good way to approach a stress reduction is to think positively. Sometimes your mind can be spinning and all sorts of stuff is going on around you and a positive thought can pull you out of that slump.

  4. Being positive is not an easy thing to do, but I am glad you are using this technique. I have tried hard to stay positive and focus on good things in life. Life is already stressful and adding to that stress by being negative is not a smart thing to do.

  6. Staying positive helps you both mentally and physically. Giving people the benefit of the doubt because your not sure of the day they have had or what they are going through is a great way to reduce stress and creates a more positive outlook on life. This is something we all need to work on a little more.

  7. I too have has this realization in the last couple of weeks. We really don't have the ability to change the opinions and habits of others, but being positive around those people can at least make them happier and most importantly your self happier. I will definitely work on this. I find myself catching what I am saying before I say it because I really think about the benefits of my words. Thanks for putting this into perspective!
